The first inter squad game was an interesting affair. Neither keeper turned up so it was bound to be a goal fest. Guess what it was. 9-9 the final score before penalties helped the As to Victory with the 5th and Final Penalty.

Shane Gavins London Irish FC took Mark Kirbys London Irish FC to the sword with a 7-2 Victory at Weston Hendon playing Fields.

Luke Tossoun put Kirbys Irish one nil but that only woke up the opposition and two goals from Ralph Scully, one from Matt O’Connoll and screamer from Captain Anthony Davitt put Shanes Irish 4-1 up at Half Time. Kirby changed things tactically at half time and it was working early on. But Man of the Match Matt O’Connoll but Ralph in to complete his hat trick and end any hopes they had of a come back. Kirby pulled one back for his side before Martin Briody and Micheal Cafferky finished the scoring off.

After one of the poorest games in recent years London Irish A erased last weeks defeat by the Bs with a late goal from Man of the Match Trevor McCarthy.

The Bs went a goal up through Matt O’Connoll before McCarthy hit a Hat Trick before Half Time. Martin O Donogue also scored in the first half leaving the score 3-2 to the As. Shane Gavin playing for the As sent the ball of the game to Stephen Ruddy who crossed for Chris Phillips to score. Martins Murphys double got the Bs back into the game after the As took there foot of the gas but Trevor McCarthy snatched the winner before an injury to Luke Tossoun after a clash of heads with Anthony Davitt made the referee blow up a few seconds early.

Vs FSL FC (Confirmed)

London Irish FC had there first friendly of the Season versus Middlesex Champions FSL FC. Both teams started sluggish but it wasn’t long before the well established FSL took the lead with a well worked goal. London Irish FC Captain Paul Fitzgerald was at fault for the second 3 minutes later when he failed to clear a simple pass back and the FSL Striker DJ Fountain pounced and took advantage. FSL FC Two goals of the good after only 13 minutes were growing with confidence. FSL where then awards a debase penalty when Fountain collided with Irish Left Back Darren Coyne. Fountain pulled himself up and converted making it 3 nil after only 20 minutes. London Irish then awoke and realised that they were going to have to fight to get back into the game. Both sides worked well and just before half time Irish right winger Matt O’Connoll was brought down by FSLs right back. Anthony Davitt stepped up with confidence for the Irish and coolly slid home the penalty. The referee then blew for Half Time. London Irish Director of Football Shane Gavin made a few changes at half time and the Irish came out stronger. Anthony Davitt received the ball of Mark Kirby in the centre of the park and lobbed the FSL goalkeeper from 25 yards out. FSL were willing to roll over and Mike Coffey scored with a lopping header after bad marking from a corner, 4-2 FSL. Irish pushed on and Matt O’Connoll dribbled past four FSL players before smashing a left foot drive from the edge of the area into the top corner. Davitt then levelled the game and sealed his hat trick with a thunderbolt. FSL weren’t finished themselves and after a defensive error by Simon Dunne Striker toe poked then into the lead again. With the clock ticking away London Irish went in search of another equaliser. Mark Kirby and Carl Hunt combined well up front and realised Matt O’Connoll down the Left he fizzed the ball across the goal and James Duncan was there to tap in the equaliser. Both teams battled in the dying moments for the winner but to no avail and the referee blew the final whistle.

London Irish Football Club won there first trophy of the 2008/2009 Pre Season, the Prestiges Belstone Invitational.

Losing there first 2 Games in the group with an embarrassing amounts of attempts on goal, they now had to win there remaining 3 games to stand a chance of qualifying. After the second loss Player/Manager Shane Gavin let the hair dryer go at his side with the lack of discipline they were showing. With only one goal scored in two games by Ralph Scully it looked like it could be a long day for London Irish travelling fans.

Having reflected on there performance so far and going into a game where it was must win the London Irish players stood up to be counted. With in seconds of the start Ralph Scully smashed home, opening the gates for a 4-0 victory. The Goals came from Trevor McCarthy, KK and Mark Kirby. Was this the turning point? After the impressive victory the Irish went into there second game full of confidence. Winning 2-0, cool finishing from Mark Kirby and Ralph Scully. In the final game of the group with it all on the line Irish had a nervy start. As the game went on they managed to hit every piece and of woodwork they could find were they starting to crack. Some encouraging words and a change of personal from Manager Shane Gavin the bhoys heads were up. Matt O’Connoll broke the dead lock then added a second minutes later. The Irish were cruising into the Semi finals where they were to meet last Seasons finalists. The Semi Final began a cagy affair with both sides trying to knock the ball around looking for space. Mark Kirby found the net just after the break and Irish played keep ball in the minutes remaining. But a mistake in the dying seconds from Aidan O’Connoll let the opposition in and they took it to Golden goal. London Irish went for the jugular from kick of and with in 30 seconds of Extra Time Matt O’Connoll saved his cousin blushes with a fine strike to win the game. London Irish FC vs. London Colney FC in the Final of the Belstone Invitational. Both teams scrapped early for position and it became physical early on. Irish were used to being bulled and it was London Colney who drew first blood. Irish at half time were told to continue to work hard and it’ll pay off. Matt O’Connoll his side back into the game, 1-1. With the referee indicating only 30 seconds to go Shane Gavin started to pick his penalty takers. But in the dying seconds of the final Mark Kirby smashed home from the edge of the area to give London Irish there first Trophy in there first competition with only 5 seconds remaining on the referees watch. Is this a sign of something special? We’ll have to wait and see.

Vs Queensbury Park Rangers

London Irish Football Club won there second trophy in as many weeks with a 4-2 victory over Queensbury Park Rangers.

The first half alone was a game of two halves with the Irish dominating the midfield but not taking the chances when they arrived. Queensbury Park Rangers grew in confidence as the half went on and could see the Irish getting frustrated. The on the half hour Queensburys Justine O’Dwyer slotted home when the Irish back four fell to sleep. Queensbury then came close to doubling there lead from a corner as Basil hit the crossbar and already Irish looked tired as the half time drew to a close. Player/Manager Shane Gavin made a few changes and the Irish came out fighting. Early in the second half debutante and Man of the Match Gavin McLoughlin beat three players before drawing the Irish level with a classy finish. Shane Gavin then made a couple more changes on the hour and Martin O'Donoghue scored with his first touch and then scored this second 5 minutes late giving Irish a 3-1 lead. Matt O’Connoll burst into the box and was brought by Michael McCarthy. Matt O’Connoll pulled himself up to power home the penalty and gives Irish a 4-1 lead going into the final 15 minutes. London Irishmen played with a relaxed stagger but Rangers weren’t finished and it took double save and a saved penalty from club captain Paul Fitzgerald to keep his Irish side in the game. Queensbury kept on knocking on the Irish door and Chris Lehane pulled a consolation back for Rangers. The game wasn’t over yet as Matt O’Connoll collected the ball before jinking past 2 players into the box and he was brought down by Sean Savage for another penalty. This time Martin O’Donoghue stepped up to complete his hat trick but a one handed save from Rangers Keeper James Riggs kept the score line at 4-2.

Harrow Charity Cup

Vs (Spanish Arch/QPR/Kenton Town)

London Irish Football Club Win 3rd Pre Season Trophy, Harrow Chairty Cup. London Irish FC beat Wards FC 5-1 in the Final of the Harrow Charity Cup. A boyount Wards after the 4-1 humiation of Kenton Town went into the Final possibly over confident and paid the price. Returning Captain Shane Monogue tucked home within minutes of the start with a neat finish across the Wards FC goalkeeper. Former Wards FC midfielder Matt O’connoll stuck it to his old side with two quick goals in the first 10 minutes. Ralph Scully another Former Wards FC player made it 4-0 before half time. With the game more or less over London Irish FC made a few changes and slowed the game down. Wards FC got a goal back when Luke Tossoun collied with Martin Masterson and the referee gingerly pointed to the spot. Mark Kirrane slotted home the spot kick but there was never really any chance of a come back. Matt O’connoll closed the door for good, when he completed his hat trick just before the final whistle.

London Irish FC kept there unbeaten preseason run going on Sunday when they locked horns with Sudbury Inn FC. After last weeks 2-2 draw with Gwalia FC which ended there 6 game winning streak with a draw, Player/Manager Shane Gavin asked for more from his Irish side.

Irish Started quickly and within 5 minutes were 1-0 up after Martin O’Donoghue pulled the ball back for Trevor McCarthy to slide the ball home. O’Donoghue was soon on the score sheet himself when Kyricos Kyricou beat his man down the right and sent the ball in the box for O’Donoghue finish easily. Martin O’Donoghue then grabbed his second in 10 minutes when Trevor McCarthy forced the keeper into a save and O’Donoghue pounced with a neat finish. Irish Captain Shane Manogue had a chance to make in 4 goals in 40 minutes but his shot fizzed wide of the right hand post. Sudbury Inn FC came out fighting after the interval and didn’t let the Irish play like they did in the first 45. There battling soon paid off and James Pearce nicked a goal back 10 minutes in. Sudbury weren’t finished as they were awarded a penalty which the converted on the hour. Sudbury tasted a come back but there hopes was then dashed when Mark Kirby fired home in the final few minutes to give London Irish a 4-2 victory.
