AFC Finchley
London Irish Football Club Reserves went Top of the Hendon and District Second Division with a 4-0 victory over AFC Finchley.
The game started sloppy with neither side really taking hold of the game. AFC Finchley had two early chances to beat Sean O'Sulllivan in the Irish Goal but wasted both by dragging the ball wide. Irish began to then get a foot hold in the game and play to there strengths and the midfield paring of Daniel Meehan and Trevor McCarthy bossed the Midfield. Irish began to squander chances but on the half hour mark returning wide man Gavin McLoughlin laid the ball back to new captain Sean Rahilly to fire into the bottom left hand corner of the next from 25 yards out. Irish were lifted by there captains goal and began to rain down on the Finchley defence. Finchley stood strong and saw out the rest of the half only one goal down. At the half Player/Manager Shane Gavin reminded his team that a win would guarantee them top spot so more goal were a must but a clean sheet was the most important aspect of the day. London Irish started the second half a little over confidant and were sloppy all over the park but after a few scares in defence Top Scorer Stephen Ruddy found the net to make it 2-0 after being put through by Michael Francos. Francos was there again to help the Irish make it 3-0 when a fizzing cross from out wide was met by Daniel Meehan to direct into the Finchley goal. The Irish were buzzing and started to pop the ball around with ease as Finchley continued to battle on with the hope of rescuing something from the game. But the attacking Finchley side left themselves open at the back and direct ball over the top from Sean Rahilly was met by Ruddy who finished with ease again making it 4-0 and there was no chance of any fight back from Finchley now. Irish squandered more chances put after being four goals to the good the Manager couldn't have to much to complain about.
