London Irish Football Club started there pre season on Sunday in the Belstone Cup. Looking to make it three in a row, Irish were the team to beat. London Irish stared the group stages with a comfortable 4-2 win over Greasley Hill Rangers with a Man of the Match performance coming from new recruit Daniel Llewellyn. London Irish then went on to win 3 of the remaining 4 group games with an impressive double from Trevor McCarthy helping them to advance into the quarter finals against hosts Belstone Football Club. Belstone FC started the quicker and a quick free kick from Fabio Valenti caught the Irish cold and Belstone led 1-0 after 2 minutes. Irish soon found themselves 2-0 down after a break away from Dave Lawrence saw him smash the ball into the Irish net. London Irish new Manager Paul Fitzgerald had to dig deep and rang the changes at half time. Within seconds on the restart Irish were award a penalty which Daniel Llewellyn coolly converted. Irish were then back in the game as James Pearce found space to weave between two defenders and slid the ball home to make it 2-2. With minutes remaining Irish had the momentum but a hand ball by Belstones Lawrence was waved away by the referee as the Irish protested. David Lawrence didn't stop and set up Michael Murray who put Belstone back into the lead. Seconds remaining Irish pushed everything forward but could find the chance they needed. A long ball out of the Belstone defense from Christopher Ingham was met by David Lawrence who put the game out of reach and finishing London Irish chances of 3 in a row. Belstone went on to win the Tournament.

Vs Cahen Rovers II FC

London Irish Football Club continued there pre season with an 8-4 victory over Cashen Rovers FC. This 12 goal thriller wasn't as thrilling as the score line might suggest. It wasn't quite Ali and Frazer like at all when these two Irish sides locked horns last Sunday. London Irish came into the game with two new recruits Ryan Fortune and Alan Bolger who both walked into the Starting 11. Buoyant with the new recruits Paul Fitzgeralds Irish began the game with great tempo and before long they found themselves 1-0 up when Ryan Fortune picked out Trevor McCarthy who headed Irish into the lead. Irish eyes were soon smiling again when Striker Thomas Madden was upended by Cashen Centre Half Jason Savage in the penalty area. New left back Nick McGlynn stepped up to convert the penalty and give the Irish a two goal advantage. Irish were flying and before the end of the first half Irish debutant Ryan fortune scored the goal of the game with a delicate chip over an out coming Cashen goalkeeper making it 3-0. Irish manager Paul Fitzgerald asked for focus and more of what he witnessed in the first half. The second half began and London Irish were caught napping. Cashen pounced and scored three glorious goals in the opening 5 minutes of the second half. Irish were shell shocked after everything they had worked for in the opening 45 they had just thrown away a three goal lead. Irish looked rattled and could string two passes together. A clearance out of the Irish defence was met by a Cashen hand and a free kick was given 30 yard from the Cashen goal. Was this the chance to turn the game back in London Irish favour. Thomas Madden stepped over the ball and bent a perfect free kick of the post and into the back of the net. Irish were jubilant in celebration and this woke the sleeping giant. Irish began to play the football they had in the first half and were soon 6-3 up when Captain Luke Tossoun scored from the penalty spot and also tapped in from a Madden though ball. The game was out of sight but Man of the Match Daniel Llewellyn raised the tempo and assisted Alan Bolger and Trevor McCarthy with two more goals for London Irish. Cashen stole a fourth at the end but the game was all but over as a spectacle.

Vs Broadway Celtic FC

London Irish Football Club lifted there first piece of Pre Season Silverware on Sunday beating favourites Broadway Celtic 10-4 in the final of the London Celtic Shield at The Hive Football Centre.

Irish got of to a great start when Striker Thomas Madden raced away down the right and cut inside full back Timothy O’Sullivan to fire in past Broadways goalkeeper Jason Mullarkey. Irish didn’t hang about and returning Captain Darren Morley gave his side a two goal advantage with a bullet header from an Aidan Lynam corner. The game was more or less finished as a spectacle when Mark Kirby making his first return after a season away from the Club made it 3-0 to London Irish. I wounded Broadway Celtic turned the heat up and the game became spirited. A clumsy challenge from Broadways Brendon Gilbride on Madden resulted in a penalty. Madden picked himself up to take the penalty but is firmly struck penalty was saved by goalkeeper Mullarkey and pushed away for a London Irish corner. This awoke Broadway and they grabbed two quick goals before the break through Paul Kelly. At halftime Irish Manager Paul Fitzgerald made a few changes and asked for more from his tired players. Aidan Lynam picked the ball up from the centre and weaved his way through the Broadway defence before bending the ball into the bottom left hand corner for the goal of the game. Irish then had a goal blitz with Madden and Kirby adding two more to there tally and giant centre halve Daniel Meehan volleyed home to give the Irish a 7-2 advantage. Irish turned sloppy again and were caught napping at the back when Darren Morley brought down Ryan Fortune in the area for a penalty. Fortune missed the penalty only to turn in the rebound. The game became sloppy and tired as Broadway maybe it 7-4. But Fitzgerald bought on Darren Beard with 15 minutes remaining and the debutant scored with his first touch and soon grabbed a second rounded the Broadway goalkeeper and tapping the ball home. With the referees whistle in his mouth to blow for full time Irish then grabbed number 10 with a sloppy second from Aidan Lynam.
